“After the screening of Half the Sky, on my campus, Virginia Wesleyan College, I left beaming with pride and challenged to do everything in my power to advocate for Circle of Sisterhood. With the help of my: Panhellenic Council, Sigma Sigma Sigma Zeta Pi sisters, friends, faculty and student athletes; our Boyd Dining Hall filled with 250 members of the Virginia Wesleyan community. That night, I experienced a overwhelming amount of emotions as I watched one of the most inspiring documentaries of my life. My heart developed a special place for the empowerment of women and enabling them the opportunity to gain educational opportunities.”

“In retrospect, it might have been odd for me, a sister who constantly wears her letters and one of the first to plan Tri Sigma events, to apply and interview to become a Rho Gamma (also known as Recruitment Guide) when it meant spending four months away from everything and all Tri Sigma. But I had a goal: I wanted to help other young ladies find their second family.” Want to read more from Rebecca on her Rho Gamma experience? Click inside!

For the next 40 days, Tri Sigma will be engaging in a conversation with you and with our inter-fraternal peers and partners. The conversation has not started today, in fact, this conversation has challenged members of the fraternity and sorority community for decades. Let’s take personal responsibility to dispel the myth that hazing is acceptable in any values based or team based environment. It is easy to support solutions to end hazing. For 40 days leading up to National Hazing Prevention Week (September 24 – 28, 2012), one commonly heard excuse for hazing will be posted via the Twitter accounts for HazingPrevention.Org (@preventhazing) and Tri Sigma. Tabitha Venkersammy, Beta Upsilon – Penn State, is spending a semester working at the Magic Kingdom. We know Tabitha (or @tibbyvenk as she is known on Twitter), has experienced many “magical moments” during her time as a cast member at Disney World. The culture at Walt Disney World invites all staff, or “cast members” as they are also called, to create magical moments for guests whenever possible. What if our values were a focused part of what we brought to our workplace? For some of you, they are. We know the world needs a little more magic, and the values of Tri Sigma – wisdom, power, faith, hope and love have found purpose because of your moments with others. Let’s hear more about Tabitha’s magical moment. Click in to read more!

Prior to starting the Labyrinth Leadership Experience, the participants gathered together virtually through a Facebook group! One of the first comments made on that group related to the feeling amongst the participants that they were pioneers. One quote was, “I feel like we are the first Sigmas going to the moon!” Let’s hear more from Katie Johnstone, Epsilon Eta, on the impact of the Labyrinth on her pioneer spirit.

Our next story from the Labyrinth Leadership Experience comes from Cammie Coker, Epsilon Zeta – Southern Arkansas. Cammie explains the “Hope Challenge”, a concept introduced to the group and the adventure that followed. “The value that truly made an impact on me during this experience was Hope. We all were divided up into groups, given $50 and told to go find hope in Washington, D.C. The group that I was a part of decided to pay it forward.” Click in to read more!
